Filipino Fiesta in the City of Brampton

Always a favorite, the tinikling dance never fails to amaze audiences, specially non-Filipinos. This performance was held at the Rose Theatre Garden Square in the City of Brampton, a Toronto suburb, on Sunday (June 13, 2010) at the Filipino Fiesta celebrating the 112th year of Philippine independence.

This choral group lulled the crowd with Filipino love songs.

This youth group performed some acrobatics as part of their dance number.

A Filipino event would be incomplete without a corresponding beauty queen. Here she is, 20-year-old Ms. Jessica Joy Hernane, the first Filipino to win the title Miss Beauty of Asia 2010. The Canadian-born Filipina beauty who grew up in Brampton, is a Life Science student at the University of Toronto.

A fiesta inevitably comes with a street faire where sellers and buyers meet and haggle over that friendly price. (All photos by Romy Marquez)

  1. The tinikling dance event in Brampton was wonderful to watch and we thoroughly enjoyed it. For anyone interested there is a new Brampton / Halton Ballroom Line Dance venue on Bovaird and Winston Churchill Blvd. They specialize in Ballroom Line Dancing and Ballroom for Couples. Check it out at www.Ballroomhealth.com for class schedules and location. Filipino community members who enjoy or want to learn dance are especially welcomed to our events.
