It was in this landmark hotel that Queen Elizabeth and her husband, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburg, were being honored by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper at a state dinner on Monday (July 5, 2010). Shortly before that, a power failure hit much of the city due to an explosion in one of the electric transmission lines. Two hours later, power was back. The royal visitors were not affected by the power outage and did proceed with the evening program at the hotel.
