Iconic Symbol of End of World War II
This sculpture is a replica of the famous "Times Square Kiss" photograph of nurse Edith Shain and an unidentified sailor during the celebrations following the end of World War II in New York City's Times Square. The nurse in the picture passed away in June at the age of 91.
The huge sculpture adorns the Embarcadero lawn fronting San Diego Bay, which is right across from the submarine base in Point Loma.
August 14 this year is the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II. The Philippines was dragged into the war in the Pacific theatre after the Japanese attack on the US base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
